Will you have a second photographer with you?
Always at weddings, unless it’s a very intimate occasion with coverage under 4 hours. This would be considered a custom package, so inquire with me! My second photographers are highly skilled, artistic in nature, and support as needed. They accent my photography with their own styles and have fun doing so. For portraits and lifestyle, only when needed.
What do you have in your camera bag and do you have backup?
I currently use a Canon 5D Mark III. I have multiple lenses that I can use during the day, including an 85mm, 35mm, a 50mm, a fisheye lens, a macro for those fine details, 70-200mm, 24-70mm and much more. My backup is a Canon 5D Mark II and III with a plethora of lenses and lighting/flash equipment. My second shooters all have backup too. I take backup equipment seriously because sometimes machines can break. For film, I have a Canon EOS IV, 35 mm, Rolliex, A holga camera other vintage bodies and sometimes bring my infrared digital buddy if we are shooting in vast sunny landscapes.
Do you do engagement photos? Why should I?
Yes Please! Book it as soon as you can. This gives us a chance to meet, to get you familiar with being in front of the lens, and you get to experience my photo style. Also, it makes your wedding day a piece of cake…you already know what to expect and don’t have any fears in front of the lens on your biggest day. The best part is you get amazing and timeless photos to cherish for years to come.
Usually engagements and lifestyle photography are booked on weekdays unless we have a random Sunday we can schedule (depending on the season). Most weddings occur on weekends, so we keep these dates special for them.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. If your venue needs my proof of liability insurance please put me in touch with the venue representative so I can email them that information.
What’s a first look and should I do one?
This is a special moment between you two when you see each other for the first time before your ceremony. If you choose to do this, It’s a special moment for us to freeze in a frame and it’s pure joy. Any time you two can connect on your wedding day, I’m your biggest cheerleader. All I want is time with the two of you, and I will get so little. It also provides you both such a meaningful moment before you face the crowd, and I just stand back and capture it.
Can other people take photos while you are taking photos?
Yes, as long as they keep a non-invasive distance as I shoot. Please avoid shooters during the family portraits, Uncle Bobs, we call them… can take the focus off of everyone in the shot. So not having any shooters beside/behind me makes for the best frame-able shots for you. I do not allow other “paid” vendors/photographers/videographers to take stills while I am. Please inquire for questions about this. (411: It doesn’t usually happen, but every once in a while)
I do recommend that you have your Ceremony Officiant/DJ tell your guests not to stick their ipads/iphones down the aisle, as this truly distracts from your images. Also, please let your videographer know to NOT be in all your ceremony pictures up at the front of the aisle blocking you. These flat out ruin the photos when they are in every frame. They can also carry zoom lenses, as we do, and not be so invasive. This is a day about you. Please also make your photographer a priority. You did not pay other people to photograph your big day, you paid me.
Do you travel?
Yes, I love to travel! Travel fees will apply.
Do we need to provide you with a meal during a wedding?
Yes please. The best time for us to eat is when YOU are eating so we don’t miss anything. Guests do not like to be photographed when they are eating, as they shouldn’t be, so we can refuel while you do, to be alert; focused and fully charged to do the best job we can possibly do. Under 4 hours is not required. Thank you in advance. Not eating can cause light-headedness which can cause unfocused shots. You definitely will want us at our best!
Do you offer video and photo booths?
No. This is because my MAIN focus is capturing the BEST frames I can get and not have to worry about managing who’s on booth and who’s doing the video and where they are. I used to provide this but I see this more as a distraction from my art. When a photographer offers all these amenities; can they really focus on getting the most amazing imagery for you?
I’m here to make your photos the BEST THEY CAN POSSIBLY BE. I am an artist first. Of course I do have recommendations for some great companies though! Just ask.
